Moving up the price ladder from coffee, let’s look at some luxury goods that are often called wastes of cash. Jeans are one item for which cash-strapped students often pony up huge sums of money. Is it worth buying a pair of $200 Diesel pants when you can get Levi’s for $20? Well, you have to ask yourself how much cash you have and how important it is to you.

If you’re earning 100 grand a year and nothing makes you happy like girding your ass in the finest of denims, go for it. But if you’re a broke college student who makes less than $200 in a whole week, you might want to scale back.

“But John,” you might be asking, “how can $200 jeans be a waste of money when they get me laid?” My answer is simple: You’re still wasting money and your jeans probably aren’t getting you laid anyway. I don’t know a single girl (or guy) who has ever said “Boy, that person is really ugly, but his jeans are so expensive that I need to fornicate with him immediately!”
