Diesel jeans worth the cost?>

Moving up the price ladder from coffee, let’s look at some luxury goods that are often called wastes of cash. Jeans are one item for which cash-strapped students often pony up huge sums of money. Is it worth buying a pair of $200 Diesel pants when you can get Levi’s for $20? Well, you have to ask yourself how much cash you have and how important it is to you.

If you’re earning 100 grand a year and nothing makes you happy like girding your ass in the finest of denims, go for it. But if you’re a broke college student who makes less than $200 in a whole week, you might want to scale back.

“But John,” you might be asking, “how can $200 jeans be a waste of money when they get me laid?” My answer is simple: You’re still wasting money and your jeans probably aren’t getting you laid anyway. I don’t know a single girl (or guy) who has ever said “Boy, that person is really ugly, but his jeans are so expensive that I need to fornicate with him immediately!”

Janet Jackson, James Brown & Eva Mendes

Janet Jackson cannot help showing off her hot bod. In the latest issue of V magazine, Jackson wears nothing but a pair of Diesel jeans, a funky feather headdress by Givenchy Haute Couture and her hands covering her breasts. Besides the revealing photos, an interview includes this gem about a Jackson visit to a Malibu grocery store a few years ago with Missy Elliott. Admitting she's led a sheltered life, Jackson said: "I'm seeing this square thing (at the checkout), and I'm like, 'What's this, you guys?' And Missy just looked at me. And they said, 'That's so you can use your credit card.' And I said, 'You can use your credit card in grocery stores now?' Missy cracked up laughing ... I didn't know."

James Brown insisted the women in his life "look a certain way," a source told janetcharl tonshollywood.com. And Brown was willing to pay to rid his wives' or girlfriends' flaws. Brown's third wife, Adrienne, died in 1996 while recovering from a liposuction procedure. The gossip website claims Brown spent $60,000 for breast and lip augmentation, liposuction, work on cheeks and chin, a brow lift and dental work for Tomi Rae Hynie, who is disputing his will. Brown, 73, died last Christmas morning.

Eva Mendes told Maxim magazine she let herself go for a role in the new comic book movie "Ghost Rider" starring Nicolas Cage. Mendes was worried fans of the Marvel comic would object to her looks. "The original Roxanne was blonde and blue-eyed, but also had huge bajoongas. If I gain weight it goes to my boobs and my butt. I figured since I can't be blond and blue-eyed, I'll at least have her bra size."

The founder of Diesel jeans takes us round his pad

Renzo Rosso is the founder of Diesel jeans and the godfather of high fashion denim, but surprisingly his natural habitat isn't in the boutiques of chi chi Milan, but on a remote hill top farm in North East Italy.

Born and brought up in the Veneto region, Renzo was determined that the farm and its lands should be saved, rather than divided up and sold as building plots. Standing on the terrace at the back of the farmhouse, Renzo points to the boundaries of the estate.

"It has now been designated a National Park and I am proud of that," he says. "I was born on a farm, I’m a farmer guy so this is going back to my roots."

Unlike the fast seasonal turnaround of the fashion business the farm, which he bought in 1994, took years of planning and patience to restore.
